As we sat down to plan this podcast we knew there would come a time where we'd end up discussing bands who have created numerous works that are considered classics. 

When we spoke about 'Jane Doe' by Converge in episode two, it became fairly clear that despite their ability to turn out record after record of solid gold, there was only really one album above all which we could consider as being the stand out. A fact made all the more obvious by the way its influence continues to reverberate throughout heavy music to this day.

Things are different for Depeche Mode. Their influence is beyond question, but what album from their oeuvre is the summation of their vision? As we discuss in this podcast, that's not entirely clear. Mark makes a case for 'Violator', whilst Chris wonders if he wouldn't find a better, more influential record if he spent more time exploring the band's catalogue. Weaver lays out his love for all things 80s, and compares this record to the work of other seminal 80s artists that were able to morph from bands that created throwaway singles into artists capable of creating albums of genuine scope and power.

We didn't say this was going to be easy.
